Ruelle Noirette translates as 'Cinder Track' and is approximately 2.5 km. from Neuve Chapelle.

 The 2nd battalion Munster Fusiliers were assigned to the Cinder Track area on evening of 8 May 1915.  Writing up the 2nd battalion War Diary on 13 May, Capt. T. Filgate, adjudant entered the  following  comment

 9th -  Brigadier-General Davies, Cmdg. 3rd Bde. told me personally twice during the day that he  considered the Regiment had behaved very gallantly and had done all that could be done. Marched  back to La Tombe Willot old billets arriving their at 10.30 pm.
